okay today we will start the first lecture

in artificial intelligence I

will give you a brief introduction about

the course then we will start with chapter 1

in chapter 1 we'll talk about introduction about you know artificial intelligence will define what is artificial intelligence and

and we'll talk about tasks and characteristics of artificial intelligence.

In Chapter 2, we will talk about problem solving and searching.

We will take a case study, a puzzle, and we will try to solve it.

it can be solved by artificial intelligence very easily

but if you want to solve it by regular programming languages like Pascal, Java, C it's difficult.

Then we will talk about Prologue language in chapter 3.

Prologue language is a fifth generation

language let me give you a

brief about these five generations

of languages the first generation language

it's called the machine language

the second generation is simply

language third generation called the procedural

languages like Java

C Pascal Delphi it's

third generation it has two characteristics

the first characteristic is what

and how what do we mean by what and how what it means you know you are going to tell the

program what you want the program to do how and you tell it how to do it for

example if you want to find

the average of grades for

the students enrolled in artificial

intelligence class we are going

to tell the program to make a

loop while loop or for loop or whatever and

read the student grade add them

count them and at the end we

divide sum over count

and get the average so within the program

what we want and how to do it this is third

generation language also it's called the procedure language

because we divide the program into subroutines

or procedure or we call it methods in the fourth generation

language we tell it what but we

don't tell it how it

knows by itself how to do it for example structure query language SQL you tell it select so and so or

average or count or whatever and

do it by itself we don't tell it how to do it also

in Excel it has a language we

tell it we need the average of these grades we don't

tell it to sum and divide and count

by itself it will find the average so

we tell it what but we do not tell it

how to do it in fifth generation language

we don't tell it what and we don't

tell it how but it has a new characteristic

two characteristics the first one called Y and the second

called how during the diagnosis or during the dialogue between for example

doctor and a patient the

patient asked the doctor why you are asking me this equation

and at the end

of the dialogue also the patient asked the doctor how

did you arrive to this conclusion for example

let me give you example is an example of an expert system

where let's say a

person felt sick he called

his friend to take him to the hospital and

the hospital emergency room they start diagnosing

him asking the patient a question do
