Making an Indie Pop Banger from Scratch w/ Lyncs (Cook Up)

Hey, it's Lynx. Thanks for coming to my cook up with Splice. Here's how I make a song from scratch.

Usually what I'll do is start with a guitar or some sort of pad.

So I'm actually going to maybe start with some keys.

Something like this. Maybe? It sounds pretty cool.

Oh, I like that better. I've been writing a lot lately in fast tempos so I think I want to write something a little slower maybe like there

I feel

like I want like a weird little texture sound.

Yeah.

That's pretty cool.

Add that in here. So we have this atmosphere sound.

Kind of have that lower.

Maybe I'll just turn it into my own loop here.

slash and then maybe we'll just duplicate this and then reverse this side

and then maybe I'll put some verb on it

One trick I like to do is if I have regions like this, I do this with my vocals as well.

As I come down here and you hit this more button and then you can just fade things in and out and you can change the type of fade.

So now these are crossfaded and they come in and out without having to manually draw them in.

I might go put a little bit of something on here. I like, I've been using movement a lot lately.

Kinda changes it up a little bit.

That's kinda cool. Keep that in the back.

I actually kinda like the original one, just like the stock. Okay.

Put that before the verb.

Yeah. Okay.

Okay. Then what I usually do is I'll pull out my phone.

It looks crazy. There's just, it

just says new recording a million times, but what I'll do is I'll just have this sort of set up and then while this is going, so I just go random.

We need drums now.

Hold on. I have a bunch of kicks, but I kind of want to see what else there is out there that I don't know.

Okay, I don't know what that is, but that's cool.

I kinda want it to sound like a...

Oh, that's kinda cool.

Yeah.

So we'll put that on top of the kick and then I'll drag these over,

put this together, and then now I actually have a loop.

So now I can offset this and if I go halfway to this one, drag it over, now we have a kick snare grid.
